Beware of the "No-Zone" to Avoid an Atlanta Truck Accident

Beware of the "No-Zone" to Avoid an Atlanta Truck Accident

In an effort to help prevent dangerous accidents that result in life-threatening injuries and death, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) created the “Share the Road” or “No-Zone” program in 1994. The goal of the program is to educate the public about the dangers of sharing the road with semi-trucks and buses and ultimately, to lower the occurrence of serious accidents that result in property damage, life-threatening injuries, and death.
The FMCSA defines the “No-Zone” as the dangerous areas around trucks and buses—blind spots—where the driver is unable to see other objects or vehicles. There are three No-Zone areas: the front, sides, and rear of a truck or bus. A good rule of thumb is if you cannot see the truck’s mirrors, you are likely in a No-Zone. Limiting the time spent traveling within these zones will help you to avoid a serious Atlanta truck crash.
As a passenger vehicle driver, you should stay out of the No-Zone as much as possible. If you have to enter the No-Zone, you need to be extremely careful, making sure that you leave plenty of time for passing and that you alert the trucker right away if the truck starts to encroach on your lane of travel.
Accidents are more likely to occur in the No-Zone area of a large truck or bus than any other area of the vehicle. Due to the efforts of law enforcement agencies and professional associations, awareness of the No-Zone is on the rise. However, more public outreach and education is needed in order to prevent dangerous truck accidents.
