1 killed, 2 hurt in collision on I-285 offramp near Cumberland
CLAYTON COUNTY, GA – One person lost their life and two others were injured as a result of a crash Sunday morning, July 21, on Interstate 285 in northwest Atlanta, reports Atlanta News First.
Clayton County Police said the fatal collision occurred on the ramp connecting eastbound I-285 to southbound I-75, in the city’s Cumberland area. It was first reported at around 4:50 a.m.
An investigation into the circumstances of the accident remains underway, but footage captured by Georgia Department of Transportation cameras indicates a tractor-trailer overturned. At least one other vehicle, a passenger car, appeared to have been involved.
Crews had the ramp completely shut down and then partially closed for several hours into the later morning. By around 11:00 a.m., both of the ramp’s travel lanes were cleared and reopened to traffic.
At this time, it’s unclear who was at fault in the incident and whether anyone is expected to be charged or cited.
