3 airlifted to hospitals after pickup truck hits tree in Washington County

WASHINGTON COUNTY, GA – A driver and their two passengers were left seriously hurt after being ejected during a crash late Saturday near a Sandersville intersection, reports WRDW.

The single-vehicle wreck occurred on South Hospital Road near Alfred C. Carson Drive. Multiple area agencies, including Sandersville police and firefighters, Washington County emergency responders, and the Georgia State Patrol, were all dispatched to the scene at about 11:30 p.m. on June 9.

According to preliminary information, a pickup truck was heading southbound on Hospital Road when, for reasons still under investigation, its driver lost control, causing the vehicle to rotate off the roadway, enter a ditch, and then collide with a tree.

The force of the crash caused the pickup to break into two. The driver and their two passengers were also all ejected from the vehicle, and the bed half of the vehicle proceeded to strike a residence in the 400 block of South Hospital Road.

First responders rushed the driver by airlift to Doctors Hospital in Augusta, while the two passengers were flown to Macon’s Atrium-Navicent Hospital.

An investigation by the GSP’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team remains in progress.
