3 hospitalized after rollover crash off I-85 in Franklin County
FRANKLIN COUNTY, GA – Three people, including a teenager, suffered injuries as a result of a single-car wreck early Thursday near Carnesville, according to Now Habersham.
The collision unfolded on a stretch of Interstate 85 near mile marker 162, just south of State Route 198. Troopers from the Georgia State Patrol’s Post 52 were called to the area at about 2:41 a.m.
Officials said a 35-year-old Loganville resident was driving a 2024 Toyota Sequoia southbound on the highway when, for reasons still unclear, the vehicle partially veered onto the east shoulder. After re-entering the roadway, the Toyota spun counterclockwise and rolled over several times. It then collided with the east shoulder’s cable barrier and then made an uncontrolled stop, facing northbound, in the median.
The driver, who sustained serious injuries, was transported to Gainesville’s Northeast Georgia Medical Center, as was on of their passengers, a 42-year-old resident of Baltimore, Maryland, for non-life-threatening injuries. The other passenger, a 16-year-old girl, suffered life-threatening injuries and had to be flown to the hospital by medical helicopter.
An investigation remains in progress.
