3 lives claimed, 3 hospitalized after van vs. car wreck in Claxton
CLAXTON, GA – Three people inside a Nissan Rogue died, and three occupants inside a van were hospitalized after the Nissan driver struck the van head-on Saturday.
This collision happened when the motorist of the Nissan drove south on U.S. 301 North (on a freeway not divided by a barrier or median), according to WSPA.Â
The impact of this wreck caused the Nissan occupants to be trapped inside the car, and Evans County Fire and Rescue officials had to extricate them using rescue tools. After the extrication took place, three of the Nissan passengers perished on site, while an ambulance took the fourth passenger to a hospital in Statesboro, Georgia.
Georgia State Patrol, who responded to the scene and will take the lead on the investigation, said the passenger and driver of the van were airlifted to a hospital in Statesboro as well for treatment of serious wounds.
Troopers have not released additional information at this time, including the victims’ names.
