4 hospitalized after crash involving fleeing vehicle on GA-8 in Hart County
HART COUNTY, GA – A fleeing driver caused a multi-vehicle crash Monday afternoon, June 17, in Hartwell that left himself and three others injured, according to accessWDUN.
The Georgia State Patrol said that at about 4:30 p.m., they were asked to assist in the pursuit of a 30-year-old suspect from Iva, South Carolina, who was behind the wheel of a 2011 Hyundai Sonata.
Preliminary details indicate the suspect was driving recklessly when the chase entered the city limits of Hartwell. As the Hyundai traveled westbound on Highway 8 toward Highway 29, it ran past a red traffic signal, striking multiple vehicles: “a 2023 Ford Expedition, a 2022 Ford Explorer, and a 2004 Mitsubishi Diamante.”
The suspect, who was placed under custody, was taken to St. Mary’s Sacred Heart in Lavonia for injuries considered non-life-threatening. His passenger, a 21-year-old Anderson, South Carolina resident, was airlifted to Greenville Memorial Hospital for major injuries.
First responders had the driver of the Expedition, a 26-year-old Hartwell resident who is said to be pregnant, was taken to Athens’ St. Mary’s Hospital as a precaution. The driver of the Explorer, a 69-year-old who suffered non-life-threatening injuries, was transported to Anderson, South Carolina’s AnMed Health Medical Center.
