5 dead after vehicle crashes into parked big rig on I-75 in Tifton County
TIFTON COUNTY, GA – A crash involved a parked tractor-trailer Tuesday night, June 4, in north Tifton ultimately claimed the lives of five people, according to Atlanta News First.
The fatal collision, which occurred near Exit 69 to Chula Brookfield Road, prompted a response from Georgia State Patrol (GSP) troopers and Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD) officers at about 6:39 p.m.
Authorities learned that one vehicle was traveling in the center lane of the highway when the driver failed to maintain his lane. Moments later, the vehicle veered off the right side of the interstate and collided with the back of a big rig, which was parked on the right shoulder.
GSP said the driver and three passengers were pronounced deceased at the scene. One other passenger was rushed to an area hospital but also later succumbed to their injuries. The decedents include three 22-year-olds, of Atlanta, Hinesville, and Dallas, Georgia, as well as two 19-year-olds, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Riverdale, Georgia, respectively.
It’s unclear at this time what caused the accident.
