Injuries Reported in Thomaston Fog-Related Wreck With Hit-And-Run Driver
THOMASTON, GA – Foggy conditions led to a 12-vehicle collision with injuries involving a hit-and-run driver Tuesday, WALB said.
The events unfolded just before 8 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 19 and Old Highway 19, where a person driving a green 2013 Ford Fusion crashed into a silver 2017 Ford Fusion. The silver Ford became disabled, but its driver was able to get out.
Moments later, a big rig driver struck the disabled truck and continued driving on the highway’s southbound lanes without stopping or rendering aid.
Other motorists proceeding through the intersection tried to avoid hitting the initially impacted vehicles and ended up striking each other.
EMS crews transported eight people to Phoebe Sumter Medical Center, and two others were taken to a hospital through personal conveyance.
The eight individuals at Phoebe Sumter are recovering from non-life-threatening injuries.
Georgia State Patrol and crews shut down the intersection for more than two hours to accommodate the scene clearance and investigation period.
GSP is working to pinpoint the hit-and-run suspect. Anyone with information on the fleeing driver or has other details pertaining to the crash is asked to contact authorities at the phone number listed in the source.
