Update: Red Light Runner Causes Fatal Crash Near Atlanta Botanical Garden
ATLANTA, GA โ As of Tuesday, Atlanta police confirmed a Tesla driver, who ran a red light, was responsible for causing a deadly crash along Atlanta Botanical Garden Monday.
New details from 11 Alive show that the Tesla ran a red light at the intersection of Piedmont Avenue and Monroe Drive and collided with a Hino box truck.
Police and fire rescue crews arrived at the scene around 10 a.m. and said the impact of the wreck caused the Tesla to get trapped underneath.
The car was eventually removed, and authorities confirmed that the Tesla driver, a 21-year-old man, and passenger, a 23-year-old woman, suffered fatal injuries at the scene.
EMS crews rushed three surviving occupants from the Tesla to a hospital for treatment of critical, life-threatening injuries. One person was identified as a 26-year-old man and two others as a woman and man, both 22.
The truck occupants, the driver and passenger, were unharmed.
An investigation is underway.
