Young Woman Hit, Killed by Dump Truck in Dougherty County
DOUGHERTY COUNTY, GA – A 20-year-old woman died following a pedestrian crash Wednesday morning, May 21, at an intersection in south Albany, reports WALB.
The Dougherty County Police Department say the fatal incident took place in the area of Liberty Expressway S.E. and Nelms Road. It was first reported shortly before 10:00 a.m.
According to preliminary details, the young woman was walking west on Nelms Road when she tried to cross Liberty Expressway. She appeared to have not yielded to the right-of-way of traffic when she was hit and fatally injured by the truck.
First responders pronounced the 20-year-old deceased at the scene.
An investigation remains in progress, but the driver of the truck is not expected to face charges.
