Boy, 9, dies one day after rollover wreck in Troup Co.
TROUP COUNTY, GA – A 9-year-old boy passed away on Sunday after his driver, who was also arrested, caused a rollover collision on SR-1 Saturday.
Georgia State Patrol told WTVM that the solo crash happened when the driver, a woman operating a 2002 white GMC Yukon, was driving south on SR-1 and drifted off the left lane and entered a median.
The female driver had overcorrected, which caused the car to go across all the southbound lanes and roll over several times on the shoulder. The impact led three of the occupants to get thrown from the vehicle.
The driver fled the scene but was later found. She is now in jail without bond and faces these charges: Homicide vehicle, Driving too fast for conditions, Serious injury by vehicle, Failure to maintain lane, Fail to use safety belts in passenger vehicle, and Leaving the scene of an accident.
Troopers confirmed that the boy, from Carrollton, Georgia, was rushed to Egleston Hospital in Atlanta and passed away after 3 a.m. on Sunday. His body was taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigations for autopsy.
As it stands, officials did not confirm whether the driver or other passengers sustained injuries or had to go to the hospital.
