Driver Arrested After Crash Involving 18-Wheeler on I-285 Near Dunwoody
DEKALB COUNTY, GA – A 27-year-old Atlanta man was taken into custody Saturday, December 21, following a two-vehicle wreck on Interstate 258 near Dunwoody, reports Appen Media.
All three occupants of the involved BMW told Dunwoody Police that a big rig that was traveling ahead of the car in the eastbound lanes swerved toward the car, causing the car to strike the median of the highway.
Some time after the BMW was found stalled in the right lane nearly a mile from the crash site, officers learned that the BMW driver had a suspended license and that there was an active warrant out for his arrest with the Sandy Springs Police Department due to a “failure to appear for traffic offenses.”
The suspect later said he had started to fall asleep while driving the BMW behind the tractor-trailer, and that while he tried to avoid an accident, the BMW reportedly swerved into the truck.
Officials said new charges filed against the suspect include “hit and run, improper lane usage, reckless driving, driving while license suspended and no insurance. He was booked into DeKalb County Jail but appeared to have been released by bond on December 22.
