Driver dies after multi-vehicle wreck on GA-120 in Cobb County

COBB COUNTY, GA – A multi-vehicle collision last Friday, July 12, near west Marietta claimed the life of a 43-year-old Columbus woman, reports FOX 5 Atlanta.

The accident took place on State Route 120 (Dallas Highway) at Friendship Church Road, at around 5:30 p.m.

According to Cobb County Police, the victim was behind the wheel of a silver 2020 Honda Accord traveling eastbound on the highway when she approached the intersection. For reasons still being investigated, she lost control of the Honda, which then spun counterclockwise and entered the westbound lane, where it was struck by a westbound Chevrolet Silverado that was in the left-turn lane toward Friendship Church Road.

As a result of the impact, the Honda spun clockwise and struck the right-front side of a red Lexus ES, which was also waiting in the turn lane. The Chevrolet, which spun clockwise and then rolled until it came to an uncontrolled stop, came to rest partially on a raised concrete median.

The driver of the Honda, who was seriously injured, was rushed to WellStar Kennestone Hospital where she was later pronounced deceased.

Officials said the driver of the Chevrolet, a 48-year-old Douglasville resident, sustained minor injuries and received treatment at the scene. No injuries to the driver of the Lexus, a 61-year-old Powder Springs woman, or her juvenile passenger, were reported.

An investigation by the Cobb County Police Department’s Special Operations S.T.E.P. (Selective Traffic Enforcement Program) Unit remains underway.
