GSP Trooper Hospitalized, Suspect Arrested After Waycross Pursuit-Crash
WAYCROSS, GA โ A pursuit, which ended in a crash, sent a Georgia State Patrol trooper to a hospital and ended in a suspectโs arrest Wednesday night.
Law enforcement told Fox5 Atlanta that just before 7:45 p.m., a trooper tried to pull over the suspect, driving a black Chevrolet Tahoe on Washington Avenue near Brunel Street. The driver did not comply with the order to stop and sped away, which prompted the pursuit.
Once the suspect and trooper reached Swamp Road, the trooper initiated a PIT maneuver to try and stop the suspectโs vehicle. While initiating the stop, the trooperโs car overturned and crashed into a creek.
The suspect ran away from the scene but was shortly caught and apprehended. Two Waycross officers rescued the submerged officer and conducted CPR before medical helicopter personnel transported the trooper to Memorial Hospital in Savannah.
