Passenger dies following crash on Joseph E. Lowery Blvd in Bankhead

ATLANTA, GA – A two-vehicle wreck late Saturday night, west of downtown Atlanta, claimed the life of a 31-year-old man and left two other people hurt, reports 11Alive.

According to the Atlanta Police Department, the accident occurred at the intersection of Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard Northwest and North Avenue Northwest, in the city’s Bankhead neighborhood. Officers were called to the scene just after 11:30 p.m.

A preliminary investigation found that the victim was a passenger in a Ford Edge being driven westbound on North Avenue Northwest by a 33-year-old woman. For reasons unclear, after the car made a left turn onto Joseph E. Lowery Blvd NW, it stopped in the intersection and was struck by a Volkswagen Jetta, which was being driven northbound on Joseph E. Lowery Blvd NW by a 31-year-old man.

The 31-year-old male passenger of the Ford Edge was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Both drivers were transported to an area hospital where they were listed in stable condition.

The APD’s accident investigations unit continues to investigate the circumstances of the crash. No charges have been reported as of this writing.
