Pursuit ends in multi-auto crash that injures 7 people in Tifton

TIFTON, GA – Seven people sustained injuries in a multi-vehicle collision that was caused by a pursuit on Wednesday, WALB reported. 

Georgia State Patrol said the events unfolded when they attempted to pull over a Toyota Camry driver on West 3rd Street and Magnolia Drive. They said the driver was operating his vehicle without a seatbelt and operating a cell phone. In addition, his car reeked of marijuana and alcohol. 

The Toyota Camry driver did not stop and drove away recklessly, making many turns and then proceeding through a red light at Magnolia Drive and 2nd Street. After running the red light, a Cadillac then hit the Camry, causing them to spin and collide with two other unspecified vehicles, thus putting an end to the pursuit. 

Troopers arrested the Camry driver and took him to Tift Regional Hospital for unspecified injuries. They said one motorist was injured, and the driver of the Cadillac and four occupants from the Cadillac — children — were hurt. 

GSP said none of the injuries were serious, and officials are working to determine what charges the Camry driver will face.
