Pursuit Leads To Fiery Crash in Decatur That Ends in Man’s Arrest
DECATUR, GA – A police pursuit led to a fiery multi-vehicle collision and ended with the fleeing driver, a 50-year-old man, getting arrested last Friday, Dec 13.
Decaturish said the events unfolded around 9:15 p.m. when Decatur Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop, signifying with their flashing lights for the 50-year-old man, operating a silver Chevrolet pickup truck, to pull over in the 2700th block of East College Avenue. The man refused and continued driving away, prompting a pursuit that terminated when the suspect slammed into several vehicles, one of which caught fire, at East Ponce de Leon Avenue and East Court Square. One motorist had to be extricated from their vehicle. The man immediately tried to flee once more, this time on foot but was shortly apprehended.
Police arrested the man, whose name will not be mentioned in this article, and escorted him to a hospital for treatment of unspecified wounds.
The suspect faces the following charges: Failure to Signal, Driving Without Headlights, Failure to Obey A Traffic Control Device, Failure to Maintain Lane, Improper Right Turn, Speeding, Driving Without Insurance, VGCSA Possession of Marijuana < Ounce, and DUI.
