Semi-truck rollover wreck in Braselton sends 1 to hospital
BRASELTON, GA – One person was hospitalized for minor wounds after the semi-truck they traveled in, carrying explosives, overturned on I-85 North Monday.
FOX 5 Atlanta said the events unfolded when the driver of the semi-truck that overturned tried to avoid hitting a tractor-trailer in front of it, causing them to overcorrect and the truck to roll over.
The Georgia Department of Transportation initially said the road was going to clear by 2:53 p.m., but officials did not arrive at the scene until 3:15 p.m., which later reopened by 4:20 p.m.
The collision blocked nearly all three lanes. As such, officials closed the area so crews could clear it. During those closures, police officers advised drivers approaching the area to find alternative routes in order to avoid any traffic delays.
It is unclear if the person who was hospitalized was a driver or passenger. In addition, first responders did not specify how many people were sent to the hospital.
No other details have been released at this time.
