Several extricated from box truck after injury crash off I-20 in Lithia Springs

DOUGLAS COUNTY, GA – Multiple people had to be extricated following a box truck collision Saturday, June 8, off Interstate 20 in Lithia Springs, reports Atlanta News First.

Douglas County Fire and EMS personnel responded to the area on the westbound lanes near mile marker 42, just past Mount Vernon Road, at about 7:00 a.m.

Georgia State Patrol (GSP) released a statement Sunday that indicated the box truck had run off the roadway and through a guardrail before striking another box truck, which was parked on the right shoulder.

While the parked truck was unoccupied, the collision left the driver and several other people in the striking truck trapped.

Crews had to use ladders and ropes to move the occupied truck, which had come to rest in a densely-wooded area. After about an hour, the driver and an unspecified number of other occupants were removed from the vehicle.

The driver, 44, was transported to a local hospital with unknown but “visible” injuries.
