Tractor-trailer overturns, causing hazmat spill on I-20 near Douglasville
DOUGLAS COUNTY, GA – Crews were called to the scene of a rollover collision and a hazmat spill Thursday afternoon on Interstate 20 near Douglasville, according to Atlanta News First.
The wreck took place on the westbound lanes near Exit 36 to Chapel Hill Road, just southwest of Wellstar Douglas Medical Center. Douglas County Fire crews and EMS personnel responded to the scene.
Officials said the tractor-trailer was transporting “barrels of hazardous chemicals” at the time tha.t it overturned, resulting in a hazmat spill.
All eastbound lanes in the area were shut down as crews worked to clear the spill and get the roadway prepared for a re-opening.
The Douglasville Police Department said that as a precaution, the West Pines Golf Course was evacuated, though no other evacuations were required or announced.
State Route 8/U.S. Route 278 was recommended as an alternate route while crews processed the scene.
