Truck Rollover Wreck in Toomsboro Takes Macon Man’s Life
TOOMSBORO, GA – A 34-year-old Macon man lost his life following a tanker truck rollover collision on GA 57 that caused a fuel spill Sunday, WTSP reports.
The events unfolded around 6 p.m., when the driver, Antwan Henley, lost control of his truck and overcorrected, which caused the truck to flip over and then throw him away from the vehicle. Ambulance personnel rushed him to Fairview Park Hospital in Dublin, where he suffered fatal wounds.
Wilkinson County authorities and hazmat fire crews responded to the scene. They said 8,000 gallons of fuel spilled from the detached tanker and was making its way toward Commissioner Creek. Officials did not confirm if the fuel spilled into the water. Nonetheless, they had to shut down the highway between Oochee Creek and Balls Ferry Road for the scene clearance process.
The Environmental Protection Agency or Georgia’s Environmental Protection Divisions will be the ones to verify whether the spill caused an environmental hazard.
