Woman, 24, Arrested After Causing Fatal Atlanta Wreck
ATLANTA, GA – As of Monday, Forsyth County deputies arrested and booked a 24-year-old woman into Forsyth County Jail after causing a fatal crash in early March.
WSBTV said the collision happened before 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 6, at Highway 9 and Atlanta Highway. The 24-year-old drove a blue 2017 Volkswagen Passat and slammed into a white 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by a 72-year-old woman.
The impact of the collision had either pinned or entrapped the 72-year-old woman, prompting a response from fire crews, who extricated her. The 24-year-old woman’s car was totaled and not drivable.
Deputies later discovered that the 24-year-old woman, a Northside Forsyth Hospital nurse, had worked three 12-hour shifts and had fallen asleep while driving, resulting in the crash.
The 72-year-old woman was taken to Wellstar North Fulton Medical Center. She was initially in critical condition and had gone into cardiac arrest three times before suffering fatal injuries.
The 24-year-old woman has since been charged with homicide by vehicle.
