Update: Driver Charged After Fatal Left-Turn Crash in Augusta
AUGUSTA, GA – A pickup truck driver was charged for failing to yield while turning left and causing a crash that killed an 8-year-old boy Monday.
New details from WRDW show that the pickup truck driver struck a 2008 Hyundai Elantra after 1 p.m. at the intersection of Peach Road and Tobacco Road. The pickup truck driver said he had a green left-turning arrow, and the driver of the Hyundai, a woman, had proceeded straight through the intersection on a yellow light. Despite these claims, the man was considered at fault.
EMS rushed to the scene and transported the three Hyundai occupants — the 8-year-old boy and two adults — to a hospital. There, the boy suffered fatal injuries. He died at precisely 1:50 p.m. on his birthday. Authorities identified him as a Hephzibah Elementary School student.
