Update: Teen, 15, loses life after red-light crash in Demorest
DEMOREST, GA – A 15-year-old boy who was airlifted to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston after a red-light collision had passed away Wednesday.
This new information was announced by 11 Alive. To recap, the crash happened before 1:45 p.m. at GA 365 South and Demorest-Mt Airy Highway on Saturday, June 29th. A 64-year-old man driving a Toyota SUV was impaired when he collided with a Riverview Point Community Church van that the 15-year-old boy was in.
The impaired driver, the passenger of the intoxicated motorist, the 15-year-old boy, and three others were rushed to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, while three others (also from the church van) were transported via private vehicles to a hospital.
The church van driver and one other occupant were spared from injuries.
Authorities arrested the 64-year-old man and booked him into Habersham County Detention Center. He was charged with DUI, failure to obey signs or control devices, and serious injury by vehicle.
